This is a blog post of sorts

If you've stumbled across this, you're reading my first foray into writing on Dev.to, to practice Markdown and to set out my stall for what I'm planning to study over the next few weeks.

We already have the CodeWorks Bootcamp done, as well as a mishmash of FreeCodeCamp, CodeAcademy and Scrimba stuff.

Now we want to focus on improving our portfolio and getting a remote job.

Do a course, get something up on the profolio and deployed. We want to move away from following along to coding tutorials and improve our ability to think of a project then develop it to deployment.
We want to follow good work flow practices along the way.
That means documentation, testing and git flow.

The Wishlist

  • Data Visualisation You want to be able to bring info and stats to life since it's more interesting to you than CSS libraries.
  • Full Stack MERN Get a full stack app idea deployed to develop your understanding of the frontend and backend.
  • Blockchain The theory of decentralisation and the possibilities are very interesting and worth digging into in order to understand how to implement as part of a fullstack app.
  • Machine Learning, the Grammar App. Get a proof of concept working for this. Again, you want to try to understand a new tech. You also want your portfolio to show something that links back to your teaching days.
  • SurfSearch, the portfolio redo It was a good idea that got lost along the way. Sit down and figure out how to get it looking and working right.
  • Python Use something rather than Javascript to build something. Compare the two languages. Dabble outside of the JS ecosystem.
  • Svelte On the frontend, move away from React and try out something that's a little lighter.
  • Automated Testing Has to be something that's incorporated into your projects.
  • Gatsby/Next.js Start into the JAMstack with a way to quickly spin up some Static websites.

Yes, it's a hugely ambitious list.
But remember, real artists ship.
