Hacktoberfest 2023 πŸπŸŽƒ

The countdown to Hacktoberfest 2023 starts now!

Hacktoberfest 2023

Hacktoberfest remains a cherished tradition in the world of open source, and it's just about that time of year again! As we prepare for the event, we want to share some information about the rewards and opportunities that await participants, and also to emphasize a few core principles that guide our approach:

  • Inclusivity: Hacktoberfest is an inclusive event. Everyone, regardless of their skill level or experience, is welcome to participate. We believe that diversity of perspectives enriches the open-source community.
  • Quality over Quantity: While the thrill of achieving quantity can be fun, we encourage participants to prioritize the quality of their contributions. Meaningful, well-crafted pull requests make a more significant impact.
  • Short-term Actions, Long-term Impact: Your actions this month can have a lasting effect on the open-source projects you contribute to. Each pull request is a step toward building a stronger and more collaborative open-source ecosystem.

At DEV, these values resonate with us, and we're excited to support Hacktoberfest once again.

Rewards & Badge Opportunities

As for the challenge itself, here’s the scoop: By following the rules and making a sufficient number of valid pull requests this month, you have the chance to claim some truly exciting and one-of-a-kind prizes from our partner, DigitalOcean.

This year, you have the opportunity to earn a suite of stylish Hacktoberfest badges for your DEV profile. Earning the Hacktoberfest 2023 DEV badge series is closely linked to your active participation in the DEV community and writing posts on DEV, and here’s the skinny on that:

  • Hacktoberfest 2023 Pledge badge: Earned by pledging commitment and authoring a post about Hackathon experience or Hacktoberfest goals. This achievement sets participants on the path to earning other badges.

  • Hacktoberfest 2023 Honored Contributor badge: Earned by completing four valid pull requests during Hacktoberfest 2023 and writing a related post.

  • DEV Contributor badge: Earned by successfully merging a pull request into DEV's repositories. While not part of the Hacktoberfest badge set, it signifies DEV's involvement and provides rewards to engaged members.

In addition to these badges, you’ll benefit from being welcomed into a vibrant online community and gaining recognition and validation for your contributions.

Note: To receive your badges, you’ll need to have a dev.to account. Follow #hacktoberfest23 to receive updates and more instructions as they become available. DEV will issue badges upon completion of the instructions.
