This is not correct, "Servers were not aware of the CORS Specification but did understand the Same-Origin Specification and allowed requests from the Same Origin Only." The Same Origin principle only applies to User-Agents. Prior to CORS, servers were blissfully ignorant of "Origin" and served up content to whomever came along.
