I Build an Offline Garden Helper So My Mom Can Touch Grass

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass

What I Built

I built an offline garden helper for my mom in Bhopal. She always asks what to plant in October.

Most apps need internet, but on our terrace there is no signal. So I made a simple Python app that works without internet.

My app has 6 steps:

  1. Checks month (October)
  2. Tells what to plant (Coriander, Spinach, Tomato, Radish)
  3. Calculates how many plants fit in 20 sq ft
  4. Water reminder
  5. Sunlight check
  6. Counts your steps - Achievement: Touched Grass!

It gets people off screen because you have to go outside to water, check sun, and walk. It is for beginners and moms who love plants.

Why open source is better than closed API? Closed Weather API needs internet + money and fails in a farm. My open code works offline, free, data stays at home. I can edit it for Indore/Bhopal easily.

Demo

I tested it yesterday. Walked 800 steps and watered coriander on terrace.

To run:

My code is very simple - only if and print, no imports, no API. Works offline.
