I agree with Thu's comments to apply your programming language to projects. Take time to learn the concepts first. For me, what works is reading a book or taking a video course where learning is structured. I don't prefer diving into documentation because it can be quite overwhelming for someone beginning to learn.

After finishing the course comes my "play", where I envision a sample project I want to do and do it. I start with a simple project, implement it, and after, I ask myself, how can I make this better or more complex? I implement that and so on... until like, I'm satisfied with my work. At this "play" stage, the documentation and online forums will be your friend, as you have a specific problem in mind that you have to solve already.
