The first call went one way. The second call went somewhere completely different. By the third call, I wasn't sure we were even talking about the same product. Instead of taking another page of notes, I opened Greta during the call and started changing the prototype while they talked. “What if this happened first?” I changed it. “No, actually, we'd need this here.” Changed it again. Twenty minutes later, we had a flow that both of us could finally agree on. It wasn't finished, but it was recognizable. The next call was much easier. They weren't trying to describe their idea anymore. They were reacting to something they could see. That saved us from another week of turning conversations into requirements and requirements into more conversations. Sometimes changing the prototype ten times in front of someone is more productive than taking perfect notes once.
