I Built a Prototype to Win an Argument. The Customer Changed My Mind.

I went into the experiment convinced that my preferred design was better. My teammate disagreed, and neither of us was willing to back down. Rather than spend another afternoon debating, I used Greta to prototype both versions. We put them in front of a few people who matched our target audience and asked them to complete the same task. The results were humbling. My version looked cleaner, but users found the alternative easier to understand. I had optimized the interface for how I thought people should behave instead of how they actually behaved. The best part was that we didn't have to turn the disagreement into a personal contest. We had something concrete to compare, and the feedback helped us decide what to change next. We even borrowed one idea from each version for the final prototype. I went into the experiment wanting to prove I was right. I came out with a better product and a much weaker attachment to my original opinion. That's an underrated use of tools like Greta: they let you test competing ideas without requiring someone to surrender before the experiment begins. Sometimes the fastest way to settle an argument is to stop talking and give both ideas a chance to work.
