A technologist working in automation. Here I write up what I actually learn building tools, engineering AI agents, and keeping systems running, along with the workflows and habits that stick.
This is the failure mode I keep seeing when history gets bolted on after retrieval. The search path has policy checks. The replay path starts as UI plumbing, then quietly becomes a cached-document API. Withholding stale source cards while keeping the user text is the sane compromise, because it gives security a clean audit point without making old threads useless.
"Starts as UI plumbing, quietly becomes a cached-document API" is a better summary than anything I wrote.
One update, since you called the compromise sane: we've since moved off it. Turns now replay exactly as they were shown, cards included, and the document toggle governs what the next turn can do rather than what the record shows. The coarse gate stayed: no copilot entitlement, no transcript. I added a note at the top of the post.
