How I Created 3 Spider-Man Suit Variations From One Base Image

Spider-Man’s classic red-and-blue suit is one of the most recognizable superhero designs ever created. But with AI image generation, it’s possible to take that familiar look in completely different directions without losing the character’s identity.

In this experiment, I used PixAI Studio and the Tsubaki.3 model to create three alternate Spider-Man suit concepts: Stealth, Futuristic, and Streetwear. Rather than changing the entire character with every generation, I kept the basic character, pose, framing, and setting consistent while changing the costume direction.

The goal was simple: to see how much a single character concept could evolve just by changing its outfit.
The three designs explore very different approaches. The Stealth version uses darker colors and tactical materials, the Futuristic version introduces armored panels and glowing details, while the Streetwear version replaces the traditional superhero suit with modern everyday clothing such as a hoodie, jacket, cargo pants, and sneakers.

More importantly, this workflow shows how AI prompting can be used as a practical character-design tool. By keeping the core prompt consistent and changing one major visual direction at a time, you can experiment with different interpretations while making the differences between each design easier to evaluate.

What We’re Creating

For this experiment, I created three different Spider-Man suit concepts, with each design taking the character in a distinct visual direction.

Stealth Spider-Man

The Stealth version moves away from the bright traditional colors and uses a black and deep-red palette, low-reflective materials, and subtle web details. The idea is to give Spider-Man a darker, more tactical appearance while keeping his familiar silhouette.

Futuristic Spider-Man

The Futuristic version keeps the recognizable red-and-blue identity but introduces armored panels, metallic-looking materials, and subtle glowing accents. This gives the suit a more advanced, high-tech feel without completely redesigning the character.

Streetwear Spider-Man

The Streetwear concept takes the biggest departure from the traditional superhero suit. Instead of a fitted costume, it uses a hoodie, lightweight jacket, cargo-style pants, and sneakers while retaining recognizable Spider-Man elements such as the mask, spider emblem, and red-and-blue details.


The interesting part is that all three designs start from the same basic character concept. This makes it easier to see how changing only the costume direction can produce noticeably different results.

Step 1: Create a New Workspace in PixAI Studio

Start by opening PixAI Studio and selecting Create New Workspace. This gives you a blank canvas where you can organize and compare your different suit experiments.

For this workflow, you don’t need a complicated node setup. A simple workspace is enough because the main objective is to generate several variations of the same character and see how different costume prompts affect the final images.

Keeping the designs in the same workspace also makes the comparison process easier. You can build each variation from the same starting point while changing only the part of the prompt that controls the outfit.


Once the workspace is ready, the next step is to add an Image Node, which is where the actual image-generation settings will be configured.

Step 2: Add an Image Node

With the workspace open, click Add Node from the toolbar at the bottom of the PixAI Studio canvas and select Image.
The Image Node is where you’ll configure the settings needed to generate your artwork.

After selecting it, the generation controls will appear below the canvas. This is where you can enter your prompts, choose the AI model, and keep the main generation settings consistent across your different suit designs.


For this experiment, keeping the generation setup consistent is important. Since the goal is to compare different costume ideas, you want the outfit prompt to be the main thing that changes rather than constantly changing your model or other generation settings.
Once the Image Node has been added and its controls are visible, you’re ready to select the model for the experiment.

Step 3: Select Tsubaki.3

Once the Image Node is selected, open the model selector in the generation panel and choose Tsubaki.3.
For this experiment, I used Tsubaki.3 for all three Spider-Man suit concepts instead of switching between different models. This helped keep the generation process consistent and made it easier to focus on how the costume prompts affected the final results.

Using the same model throughout is a simple but important part of the workflow. If you change the model at the same time as the outfit, it becomes harder to tell whether a visual difference came from the prompt or from the model itself.


With Tsubaki.3 selected, the next step is to create a base Spider-Man prompt that can be reused for all three designs.

Step 4: Write One Base Spider-Man Prompt

Instead of creating three completely different prompts, start with one base description for Spider-Man and keep the character, pose, composition, and setting as consistent as possible.

This makes the costume the main variable. When you later change the outfit direction, you can better see how each prompt affects the final design rather than having several unrelated elements changing at once.

For my base prompt, I focused on a masked Spider-Man in a full-body standing pose, facing the camera, with the costume clearly visible. I also used a simple New York rooftop setting and cinematic lighting to keep the composition consistent.

Base prompt:
«Spider-Man, iconic red and blue suit, full-body character design, standing hero pose, facing camera, athletic build, clear costume visibility, New York rooftop, simple city background, balanced composition, cinematic lighting, high detail»

Keeping these elements unchanged across the three generations makes the comparison much more useful. Instead of changing the character, camera angle, environment, and outfit simultaneously, you can focus on how Tsubaki.3 interprets each new costume direction.


Now that the base prompt is ready, we can start creating the first variation: Stealth Spider-Man.

Step 5: Create Suit #1: Stealth Spider-Man

For the first variation, I kept the base Spider-Man description and changed only the costume direction. The goal was to create a darker, more tactical version of the character using black and deep red, low-reflective materials, and minimal glowing details.

Prompt Used

«Change the red and blue suit into a matte black and deep red stealth suit with low-reflective tactical materials, subtle web patterns, and minimal glowing details. Keep the character, pose, framing, and background unchanged.»

The result remained immediately recognizable as Spider-Man, but the darker color palette gave the character a much more serious and tactical mood. Tsubaki.3 also emphasized the tactical-looking materials and red panel details while maintaining the familiar superhero silhouette.

This is a good example of how changing the color palette and material description can significantly alter the personality of a character without completely redesigning the character itself.

Next, we’ll take the same approach in a different direction and create a more advanced Futuristic Spider-Man suit.

Step 6: Create Suit #2: Futuristic Spider-Man

For the second variation, I moved the design in a more technological direction while keeping the same basic character, pose, framing, and rooftop setting.
Instead of the darker stealth approach, I introduced armored panels, metallic-looking materials, streamlined plating, and subtle cyan glowing accents. The familiar red-and-blue identity remained, but the suit was given a more advanced construction.

Prompt Used

«Change the suit into a futuristic red and dark blue armored suit with metallic panels, streamlined high-tech plating, and subtle cyan glowing accents. Keep the character, pose, framing, and background unchanged.»

Tsubaki.3 responded particularly strongly to the armor-related instructions. The resulting design featured segmented panels across the torso, arms, and legs, making the suit feel more technological while still preserving the recognizable Spider-Man color scheme.
One interesting detail from this test was that the cyan glowing elements were less prominent than expected. The model placed more visual emphasis on the armor and structural details, showing that some prompt elements may receive more attention than others during generation.

This variation shows how material and construction keywords can completely change the feel of a familiar character design without losing its core identity.

Step 7: Create Suit #3: Streetwear Spider-Man

For the third variation, I wanted to push the design further away from the traditional superhero suit. Instead of simply changing the colors or adding armor, I introduced modern streetwear while keeping the character, pose, framing, and rooftop setting similar to the previous generations.

Prompt Used

«Change the suit into modern Spider-Man-inspired streetwear with a red and dark blue hoodie, lightweight jacket, tapered cargo pants, and high-top sneakers. Keep the character, pose, framing, and background unchanged.»

This produced the biggest visual change of the three experiments. The hoodie, jacket, loose-fitting pants, and sneakers changed the overall silhouette, making the character look more like someone wearing everyday urban clothing than a conventional superhero suit.

Despite the major change in clothing, the character still felt recognizable as Spider-Man. The mask, spider emblem, and familiar red-and-blue color references helped preserve that connection.
This variation also demonstrates how far you can push a character redesign while still retaining the visual elements that make the original character identifiable.

Step 8: Compare the Three Suit Designs

After generating all three versions, placing the results side by side makes the differences much easier to see. Even though the same basic character, composition, and setting were maintained, each costume direction produced a noticeably different interpretation.

The Stealth design changed the mood most dramatically. Its black-and-deep-red palette and darker materials gave Spider-Man a more tactical appearance while keeping the familiar superhero silhouette.

The Futuristic design focused more on construction. Armored panels and metallic-looking sections made the suit feel more technological without moving too far away from the traditional red-and-blue identity.

The Streetwear version made the biggest overall change. The hoodie, jacket, cargo-style pants, and sneakers transformed both the clothing and the character’s silhouette, while the mask, spider emblem, and color references kept the Spider-Man identity recognizable.


The biggest takeaway from the comparison is that each variation changed a different aspect of the original concept:

  • Stealth → changed the mood and color palette.
  • Futuristic → changed the suit’s construction and materials.
  • Streetwear → changed the clothing and overall silhouette.

By keeping the base prompt consistent, these differences became much easier to identify. This is what makes the workflow useful for experimenting with character design using AI.

How to Create More Outfit Variations

The same workflow can be used to explore far more than these three Spider-Man designs. Once you have a consistent base character prompt, you can keep the character and composition unchanged and simply replace the costume section with a new visual direction.

For example, you could experiment with:

  • A samurai-inspired Spider-Man suit
  • A cyberpunk outfit
  • Winter gear designed for a cold environment
  • Fantasy armor
  • A post-apocalyptic costume

The approach also isn’t limited to Spider-Man. You can apply the same method to an original character, an anime character, or a game character.

The key idea is simple: establish the character first, then change one major outfit direction at a time. This gives you more control over the experiment and makes it easier to understand how each costume idea affects the final image.

Tips for Better AI Character Outfit Designs

After testing the three suit directions, a few prompting techniques made the results easier to control and compare.

  • Keep the Base Character Consistent: Use the same core character description across your generations. This makes it easier to identify which changes are actually coming from the outfit prompt rather than from other parts of the description.

  • Change One Major Direction at a Time:Give the AI a clear visual target instead of combining too many unrelated styles. In this experiment, stealth, futuristic, and streetwear each provided a distinct direction, which helped produce noticeably different results.

  • Make the Outfit Clearly Visible: If the clothing is the main thing you’re testing, use a full-body or three-quarter composition. This gives the model enough room to show important costume details.

  • Use Strong Clothing and Material Keywords: Specific terms can make a significant difference. Words such as “armored panels,” “tactical fabric,” “hoodie,” and “sneakers” give the model clearer visual instructions and can lead to more obvious changes in the final design.

  • Don’t Expect Every Detail to Stand Out: AI models don’t always give equal visual emphasis to every part of a prompt. In my Futuristic Spider-Man test, for example, the armor was much more prominent than the requested cyan glowing accents.

  • Generate Multiple Variations: If an important costume feature doesn’t appear as expected, don’t assume the prompt has failed. Try generating another version with the same overall direction. A new generation may interpret the same instructions differently and produce a result closer to what you’re looking for.

I Also Joined a Spider-Man Community Contest on PixAI

After creating the three alternate Spider-Man suit designs, I decided to take the project a step further by creating a separate Spider-Man artwork for the “Spider Man: One Night Above the City” community contest on PixAI.
Rather than reusing one of the character-design experiments,

I treated the contest entry as a separate artwork built specifically around the contest’s nighttime city theme. I created the new Spider-Man scene, published the finished artwork on PixAI, and then submitted it to the contest.

Conclusion

Creating alternate character outfits with AI becomes much easier when you avoid changing everything at once. By keeping the same basic Spider-Man concept and using Tsubaki.3 throughout the workflow, I was able to focus on how each costume direction influenced the final result.

The workflow itself was straightforward: create a workspace, add an Image Node, select Tsubaki.3, establish a base character prompt, and then change the costume direction for each generation.

The three experiments produced noticeably different results from the same starting point. Stealth changed the mood and palette, Futuristic changed the suit’s construction, while Streetwear changed the clothing and overall silhouette.

The best part is that you don’t have to stop with these three ideas. You can repeat the same process with other Spider-Man concepts or apply it to your own characters, anime characters, or game characters. Once you understand how to separate the base character description from the outfit direction, AI becomes a useful tool for exploring multiple character-design possibilities from a single concept.

Final Thoughts

What I found most interesting about this experiment is how much a familiar character can change without losing the visual identity that makes the character recognizable.
By keeping the main Spider-Man concept consistent and changing only the costume direction, I was able to create three very different interpretations: a darker tactical version, a high-tech armored version, and a modern streetwear version. The process showed how simple changes in clothing, materials, colors, and silhouette can lead to completely different results.

The biggest lesson is that AI character design doesn’t always require starting from scratch. A strong base concept combined with focused prompt changes can give you a practical way to explore multiple ideas quickly.
If you’re experimenting with AI-generated character art, try taking one character and giving them several completely different outfit directions.

Keep the character and composition consistent, change one major element at a time, and see how far you can push the design while still keeping the character recognizable.
Sometimes, the most interesting designs come from simply asking: “What if this character wore something completely different?”
