Hi, I’m Nuno, and welcome to Running DBA — a blog about SQL Server, automation, migrations, disaster recovery, and the real challenges DBAs face in production.
I don’t claim to be an expert in a single narrow area. What I am good at is solving problems. When something breaks or needs to scale, I dig in, research relentlessly, and don’t stop until it works. That mindset has shaped my entire career and is why I’m constantly learning.
I became a DBA by accident, thanks to someone who threw me into this world without mercy 😉. The most valuable lesson I learned early on was this: knowing how to search and how to learn is a skill. No one knows everything, but the willingness to learn makes all the difference.
For a long time, I worked far from the SQL Server community, solving real production problems in environments that weren’t always ideal. That was my normal. Joining DataMasterminds changed that. I found myself surrounded by people who are not only highly skilled but who genuinely care about quality, learning, and each other. Working in that kind of environment pushes you to raise your own standards every day.
On this blog, I’ll share what I learn in practice: automating SQL Server tasks, running migrations, designing disaster recovery strategies, and mastering backups and restores. Expect practical examples, lessons from production, and solutions that actually work, because theory is useful, but production is where you really learn.
Whether you’re a DBA, a developer, or just curious about what it takes to keep SQL Server running smoothly, you’re in the right place. And yes, there will probably be a few running metaphors along the way 😉
