What I Built
Reanimate Fortran is a local web app that uses your local LLM server to "resurrect" old, legacy Fortran code and gives it new life in Python.

How I Built It
Reanimate Fortran was written in React (using Vite). It connects to your existing LLM server, whether it is Ollama, LM Studio, lamma.cpp, etc. You can specify the IP address if the server runs on a different machine on your network.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Legacy code written in Fortran likely contains private and proprietary company information that many organizations would not want shared with a third party. By using a local LLM server, the legacy (and converted) code can remain in the company's control.
The Spirit of It
Fortran, short for Formula Translation, was the first widely used high-level programming language. Developed in the 1950s and commercially released in 1957, it was designed to simplify complex mathematical and scientific calculations. You might have seen it mentioned several times in the hit movie Hidden Figures.
While many may consider Fortran to be a "dead" language that belongs in the "programming graveyard," some companies still have old, legacy systems running Fortran. That ancient code could be "resurrected" by a more modern modern language like Python.
