I design systems and I code. I think FORTRAN 66 was the first language I wrote in, then a couple of years assembler once I was given a desk and a job title. Trainee, that was it. £800 a year. The desk seemed immense and quite probably was. It came with an ashtray, wire baskets and the use of a typing pool.
I've joined because my 7 year old son wants to write mods for Minecraft, a skillset I have not so far encountered. I can express myself in Java but the gaming aspects of Minecraft haven't yet sunk in. I'm expect I'm resistant to learning how to game.
