Slate is invoicing built for Israeli businesses, where the tax rules are not optional and the software usually pretends they are.
Most invoicing tools were designed somewhere else and translated later. They let you edit an issued invoice. They renumber documents when you delete one. They print a PDF from your current business details, so last year's invoice quietly updates when you change your logo. Every one of those is a compliance problem here, and every one of them is something an accountant eventually has to clean up.
Slate treats the fiscal rules as the product. An issued document is permanent: no edits, no deletes, no renumbering. Document numbers are sequential per type and claimed atomically, so a failed issue releases the number instead of burning it. Once a document is signed, it renders from a frozen snapshot of the business details, customer details, VAT rate and logo as they were at that moment. Rebrand tomorrow and nothing that already left your hands changes.
Allocation numbers (מספר הקצאה) are handled inline. Connect your Tax Authority account once, and qualifying invoices request a number during issue, before the document exists. If the Authority refuses, the invoice does not get created with a hole in it: you see the reason, and you choose what to do next, including the Authority's own alternatives. Retry, objection and cancellation are all recorded and reported.
The rest is the ordinary work, done in Hebrew and RTL first, with English available. Customers, products, expenses, credit notes, receipts, VAT reports, PCN874 and Open Format export. Import your history from another system through the standard Open Format ZIP, a spreadsheet, or a CSV, with a preview that shows conflicts before anything is written.
There is AI in here, and it stays on a leash. Photograph a receipt and it fills the expense form. Describe an invoice in a sentence and it drafts one. Ask your books a question and it queries your own data, read only. Nothing an AI produces gets saved until a person reviews it and presses save. That rule has no exceptions in the codebase.
Slate runs in the browser, installs as an app on a phone, and works offline-shaped rather than desktop-shaped, because most people issuing an invoice are standing somewhere.
