Do you have blocklist? Are you on somebody's blocklist?

I'm actively present on 3 platforms. Here are the stats:

  • Twitter. Blocked by: 0. Block: 0.
  • Github. Blocked by: 1 (actually kind of 2). Block: 0.
  • dev.to. There is no blocklist (right?), so I have no idea if there are people who don't want to talk with me. There are 4 persons who I don't want to talk to. (I have the biggest number of followers on dev.to)

What are your stats? What contributes to those numbers in your opinion?

I was blocked by a kid actor when he tweeted shaming another actor and I replied “not cool” 😂
I think that’s my only one, but I started blocking a lot of celebrities and politicians ever since twitter saw it fit to show the tweets of people I don’t follow on my TL.

Dev.to: There's no blocklist, but anyways I'm not aware of anyone who doesn't want to talk to me. Also only 1 mildly annoying/arrogant person I ran into and no actual serious issues. So big plus for this community.

Github: Blocked by: 0 Blocking: 2

Twitter: Blocked by: don't know? Probably, but likely single digit. Blocking: 2581, but could be far bigger if I weren't too lazy to block 🤷‍♀️ Anonymity doesn't necessarily help the quality of conversations.

I treat social media blocklisting like I do security. Start from the most restricted stance, then open up gradually. So, for instance...

Facebook: Most of my stuff is posted only to Friends. I don't even allow Friends of Friends. That said, there are a few things I post publicly. Even with these restrictions, I don't use Facebook much.

Twitter: I don't use it. It's a cesspool.

Instagram: My account is set to private. I only follow people who I also have direct contact with on a regular basis IRL. And I only allow people I know IRL to follow me. That way, I know what's really going on with them (not what they want me to think they're doing) and can act accordingly. I never hesitate to cut someone off if they start drama.

LinkedIn: I only use it for business connections. And I rarely look at the timeline of posts from people I'm connected with. I don't use it as a social network, to be honest.
