No, people do NOT want dark. They want LIGHT. You probably met a couple of lunatics, so called "darkers", "ghots".

Let me know how to have white background? With Win 10, this all dark thing renders unusable. Bright green on blac is OK, but the rest sucks big time

I also want light mode back. There used to be a settings option, I can't find it today.

That's a broad generalization.

I, for one, need dark mode because I'm prone to headaches and worsened dyslexia symptoms when I have a light background for extended periods of time. I'm not a "lunatic", I have a disability. As to the many friends I have who also like dark mode, most of them prefer it to reduce eyestrain, (again) not because they're crazy.

You're welcome to enjoy and prefer light mode, write about how much you like it, and ask interface designers to include it, and so on. We're all entitled to our preferences.

However, to claim that the "majority" want it is a bit much. The author referred to a poll; I recall seeing several similar polls in recent years about dark vs. light mode. (Here is one of the less formal ones.) If you have some contrary data, sharing it would definitely add to the conversation in a constructive way! Baseless dismissal, one the other hand, helps no one, least of all yourself.

What's further, to assert that people who prefer dark mode are "lunatics" is altogether inappropriate, and over the line in regard to the Code of Conduct:

Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment include:
...

  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences

Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:
...

  • Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks

Please be mindful in the future.
