Japanglish Tech Talk #6 Presentation Introduction

Hi There! This is Tamtam.
I'm organizing "Japanglish Tech" event with Naru, Ayaka, and Yori.

What is Japanglish Tech Talk?

This is an English-only LT event for engineers held in Tokyo, Japan!
It is difficult to speak English in Japan because most conversations are in Japanese.
With this in mind, we are organizing this event to provide a casual opportunity to speak at an LT event in Tokyo.

Japanglish Tech Talk #6 Presentation :-D

We had our 6th Japanglish Tech Talk event!
The theme this time was "Developer Productivity" - a topic that resonates with every engineer.
So I will briefly share the presentations.

Thank you for sponsoring!

We would like to express our gratitude to Tech Biz, Sentry Japan (Ichizoku), and Job Draft(転職ドラフト) for their cooperation in hosting this event.
Thank you once again! 🙏

Presentations

Changing Companies, Constant Challenges: What Four Approaches Taught Me About Developer Productivity

Taiji shared his journey through four different companies (IBM, OutSystems, Datadog, and HERE Technologies), revealing how each company's approach to developer productivity taught him valuable lessons. He emphasized that despite different tools and contexts, the core principles remain the same: developers thrive with clarity, autonomy, and fast feedback. His personal story about learning English at 35 and how it transformed his career was particularly inspiring!

How TypeScript Unification Improved Our Development Productivity

Taisei from AI Shift (CyberAgent group) presented how they boosted productivity by unifying their development with TypeScript. As they evolved from separate AI and Dev teams to collaborative teams building AI agents, they chose TypeScript over Python for better type safety and team alignment. The result? Improved development speed, better cross-team collaboration, and enhanced communication speed.

Boosting Development Productivity Through Lessons Learned from Implementing OAuth2.0

Subaru, who joined AI Shift just two months ago, shared how implementing OAuth2.0 taught him three critical success factors for productivity:

  1. Leveraging standard specifications (RFCs)
  2. Creating shared team knowledge
  3. Investing in foundations like automated testing

His journey from OAuth1's complexity to OAuth2's simplicity demonstrated how standards and good documentation can dramatically improve development efficiency.

Why Testing Isn't Just About Bugs: The Testing Process as a Path to Developer Flow

David, a fresh graduate from Cambodia, shared his transformation from seeing testing as just "finding bugs" to understanding it as a productivity booster. Through his company's "Test, Analysis, and Design" sessions before coding, he learned to approach development with confidence and peace of mind. His message: testing-first approach is especially helpful for new engineers!

Interactive Discussion Sessions

One unique aspect of our event was the interactive discussion time. Participants paired up to discuss:

  1. Non-AI Development Productivity - focusing on traditional productivity improvements
  2. AI-Powered Development Productivity - exploring how AI tools are changing our workflows

Key insights shared:

  • Clear requirements definition is crucial for productivity
  • AI tools like mockup generators help bridge communication gaps between developers and stakeholders
  • Tools like v0 and Lovable are game-changers for rapid prototyping

Community Spirit

What makes Japanglish Tech Talk special is our supportive environment. As we always say: "You don't need to speak perfect English. We just need to speak English!"

This philosophy creates a safe space for Japanese engineers to practice technical English presentations without fear of judgment.
