Fetterman Kills War Powers Vote: What It Means

One Senator Just Tanked the Constitutional Check on War

On July 30, 2026, the Senate voted 49-50 against a resolution that would have forced President Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran unless Congress explicitly authorized the war. It needed 50 votes. Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voted no, siding with the GOP majority and single-handedly killing the measure. This was the thirteenth time the Senate has voted on ending this war this year — and Fetterman has opposed it every single time.
