Cloud Computing and its benefits over traditional IT setups.

What is Cloud Computing ?

The development cloud computing has been a major virtue, not only for the IT industry but also for every establishment out there that is dependent on computer technology one way or another. It has revolutionized the way we interact with the technology. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that cloud computing is the biggest breakthrough of this decade that has transformed the world around us.

But what exactly is cloud computing you ask? By definition, "Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user, over the internet ". In simple words, cloud computing allows us to remotely access the hardware infrastructure over the internet that is being hosted on a server, when we need it. Thus reducing the capital expenditure on hardware infrastructure to a great extent.

Advantages :

Apart from this, cloud computing has many other advantages as compared to the traditional IT infrastructure which are as follows:

1. Economically feasible:
Cloud Computing can reduce our expenditure on purchasing the hardware. We don’t need to maintain those racks of servers which usually consume a great load of electricity for power and cooling. It also reduces the manpower required for maintaining the IT infrastructure to a great extent as the maintenance of those cloud servers is not our duty.

2. Speed:
Cloud computing services are faster than the traditional hardware used. The cloud servers are usually upgraded to the latest generation of fast and reliable computing hardware which results in a greater performance upgrade.

3. Scalability:
The cloud computing services are provided on demand. They deliver the demanded amount of resources- more or less computing power, amount of storage required, right on the click of a mouse.

4. Security:
The data stored in cloud servers is usually safer than the traditional hard drives. We can have the benefit of data encryption and the servers are protected by various protocols and world class cyber-security experts.

5. Productivity:
The productivity of workforce increases exponentially. They are free from the hassle of maintaining hardware setup, software patching and other time consuming IT chores.

6. Collaboration :
The data is hosted on servers connected over the internet. So the geographical location of employees doesn’t matter. We can access the infrastructure from anywhere. This has saved many IT dependent companies during this ongoing pandemic by keeping them connected.

7. Reliability:
Desktop applications have a high risk of data loss usually due to hardware faults which could result in a high state of panic. With cloud computing, your backups are taken care for you. That is a big part of their business.

Conclusion:

It’s pretty clear that cloud computing is a major advancement from these traditional desktop applications. With that being said, it is really important to make the right decision when choosing the cloud services provider. More than anything, you have to choose the software that offers the capability that you need.
