From Burnout to Balance โ€“ What Iโ€™m Changing as a Developer

Hey again, devs ๐Ÿ‘‹

After sharing a couple of posts, I felt like it was time to talk about something different โ€” about taking a step back from coding in order to move forward. A lot of us go through the same cycle: burning out, feeling stuck, coding non-stop, and forgetting to just live.

Today, I want to talk about something a bit deeper: balance.

## The Grind is Real
Letโ€™s be honest โ€” being a developer can easily take over your whole life.
Deadlines. Bugs. Feature requests. Refactors. Debugging bugs that only happen when Mercury is in retrograde. ๐Ÿ˜…

And sometimes, the love we have for what we do makes it even harder to step back.

What Iโ€™m Changing

This isnโ€™t just a post to vent โ€” I want to be intentional with the way I grow. So hereโ€™s what Iโ€™m actually starting to do:

  • No more working past midnight (unless Iโ€™m in flow and loving it โ€” not just grinding).

  • 1 hour daily for non-tech stuff โ€” walks, reading, music, just something not involving code.

  • Weekend = personal time, not โ€œcatch up on all side projects and burnout againโ€ time.

  • Talk to people more โ€” devs, friends, even strangers. Real conversations. Not just Stack Overflow threads.

What You Can Ask Yourself

If youโ€™re in the same boat, try asking:

  • When was the last time I logged off and felt fully done for the day?

  • Whatโ€™s one hobby Iโ€™ve been ignoring?

  • Am I coding because I want to โ€” or because I feel I have to?

TL;DR

Iโ€™m not quitting dev life. I love it too much.
But Iโ€™m done letting it be the only thing I do.

So if youโ€™ve been feeling stuck, burned out, or justโ€ฆ robotic, maybe take a step back and ask yourself:
โ€œWhat does balance look like for me?โ€

Letโ€™s all try to find our version of that โ€” together.

Signing off again,

Jigin โ€“ Human first, developer second (trying, at least ๐Ÿ˜„)
