Mockterview : Master your Mind for every Interview

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend

What I Built

Mockterview is an AI-powered mock interview platform designed to help candidates prepare for technical coding interviews through realistic, real-time practice sessions and targeted feedback.

Who I Built It For

I built Mockterview for some of my College peers who were preparing for interviews and coding assessments. Like many job seekers and students, they struggled with Interview Anxiety , Lack of Accessible Practice Partners , Vague Feedback.

Demo

Here is the link to check it out.
Feedbacks are appreciated.

A classmate gets nervous before technical mock interviews, oral exams, or public presentations and wants a private, instant practice partner to hone their responses.

Mockterview

Mockterview is a local-first voice practice coach for technical interviews, oral exams, and presentations. Record an answer, save it, and get a clarity score, detected filler words, technical points, and suggestions for improvement.

Run locally: http://localhost:3000 after starting the development server.

The hosted demo does not include the local Whisper runtime or model weights. Audio recording/playback works, but transcription-based audio evaluation requires running locally and following the Whisper setup below. The hosted app can evaluate submitted transcripts using its built-in evaluator.

Features

  • Accessible, responsive recording dashboard with live audio visualization, pause/resume, and playback.
  • Explicit Save & evaluate action that downloads the recording locally before requesting a review.
  • Local Whisper speech-to-text and optional local Ollama evaluation.
  • Transcript-grounded improvement suggestions. If transcription is unavailable, the app reports an error rather than evaluating fabricated content.
  • POST /api/evaluate-interview accepts a JSON transcript or multipart audio upload. Audio is limited to…

How I Built It

Since this is my first year in Hacktoberfest , I am using Github Copilot for building it as I am more familiar with it .

I created a public repository first. Then I used Google Gemini and explained the situation I wanted to solve and asked it to generate a prompt accordingly.
Later , I pasted this prompt in Github Copilot and gave some specifications that i wanted the app to have.
I used Vercel to obtain the public link.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation matters for Mockterview because preparing for technical interviews involves personal data, custom practice scenarios, and real-time interaction that proprietary, closed-door platforms simply can't handle with total trust.

I am open to any suggestion to improve this.

Thank You !!
