Reflection AI has released Beam, its first open-weight model. The company says it is built for coding, reasoning, and AI agents, and that it can do the work with less computing power than some leading rivals.
Beam is a large model, but it uses a smaller active part of itself for each request. That design could make it cheaper to run, especially for companies that want to host AI on their own systems.
The key word is could. The performance and efficiency numbers are the company’s claims, and outside testing will show how they hold up in real use. Reflection says it plans to release the model weights later this month under a license that lets developers adapt and run them.
If Beam delivers on its promise, teams may get more choice between renting a closed AI service and running a capable model themselves.
