Runway just showed a strange new direction for AI.
Its new system, Solaris, does not build an app the usual way. It generates the interface live, frame by frame, while you click, drag, or speak to it.
Think of it like a website made from video, except the video reacts to you. There is no normal code layer sitting between your idea and what appears on screen.
That could make software feel much more natural. Instead of filling out rigid screens, you could ask for what you want and watch the interface reshape itself around the task.
The next app may not be written. It may be generated as you use it.
But Solaris is still early. Runway says stable text, long sessions, trust, and screen-reader support are all hard problems. It is also not a public product yet.
The bigger idea is what matters. If AI can generate a working interface in real time, the line between a video, a website, and an app starts to disappear.
My take? This feels less like a better website builder and more like a new kind of computer screen. The interface itself becomes alive.
