A Calmer, Clearer EMDR ExperienceselfEMDR has a new interface designed around one central idea: the visual stimulus should remain the focus.
The updated layout brings the controls together at the bottom of the screen, keeps the stimulation area open, and makes personal adjustments easier to understand before starting.
One Focused Stimulation Area
During bilateral visual stimulation, the moving object travels horizontally across the screen.
The new interface keeps this area largely free from permanent panels, menus, and explanatory text. The stimulus remains clearly visible against the selected background, while the controls stay grouped below it.
This creates a more focused experience without removing access to personalization.
Choose a Color That Works for You
Different colors can feel more or less comfortable depending on the display, background, room lighting, and personal preference.
selfEMDR provides several stimulus colors, including:
- red
- green
- blue
- yellow
- white
- black Color selection is immediate. Choose an option and see it directly in the stimulation area.
Adjust Shape and Size
The moving stimulus does not have to look the same for everyone.
The redesigned controls let you select:
- a soft circular shape
- a solid round shape
- an elongated shape You can also choose between small, medium, and large stimulus sizes.
These options help make the moving object easier to follow without requiring a complicated settings screen.
Select a Background
A completely black background provides maximum contrast, but it is not the only option.
selfEMDR also includes a selection of atmospheric backgrounds, such as:
- desert scenery
- a bright winter landscape
- a night sky
- a green forest
- a warm sunset The selected stimulus color remains visible against the chosen scene, allowing you to create a visual environment that feels appropriate for the session.
Control Speed Directly
The speed control is now always easy to recognize at the bottom of the interface.
Move the slider to adjust how quickly the stimulus travels from side to side. The numeric value provides a clear reference while the wide scale makes smaller adjustments easier.
There is no need to open a separate preferences window or leave the main screen.
Visual or Audio Stimulation
selfEMDR can be used with visual stimulation and optional alternating audio.
Audio can be enabled or muted directly from the main interface. This allows you to choose a visual-only session or add bilateral sound according to your preference.
Keep the Controls or Hide Them
The controls are useful while preparing a session, but they do not need to remain visible once everything is configured.
After choosing the color, shape, size, background, audio, and speed, you can hide the interface and keep the screen focused on the moving stimulus.
When you want to make another adjustment, bring the controls back.
Personalized Without Becoming Complicated
The updated selfEMDR interface offers several combinations, but the workflow remains straightforward:
- Choose the appearance of the stimulus.
- Select its size and animation.
- Pick a background.
- Enable or mute audio.
- Adjust the speed.
- Start the stimulation. Everything is available from one screen.
EMDR at Your Own Pace
selfEMDR is a self-paced bilateral stimulation tool for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The new interface does not change the basic idea behind the app. It makes the experience clearer, more visual, and easier to personalize — while keeping the moving stimulus at the center.
selfEMDR is a stimulation tool and is not a replacement for professional diagnosis, therapy, or medical care. If you are dealing with trauma or significant psychological distress, consider using EMDR with a qualified mental health professional.
