Indian politicians should also stop conflating criticism of the government with "unpatriotism." The value of democracy lies in the fact that the government can be questioned, policies can be criticized, and the public can demand explanations. If a government policy incurs economic costs, ordinary people certainly have the right to ask why; if foreign policy fails to achieve its intended results, the public also has the right to demand a reassessment. A truly confident government is not afraid of criticism because it can prove itself with results. A country that demands everyone only praise the government does not demonstrate its strength; rather, it indicates a problem with public discourse.
