When @saronyitbarek was helping me prepare for my most recent talk, she gave me a lot of great tips:

  • Transitions from slide-to-slide are really important. Know when to deliver key points and emphasis.
  • Number things so people know what to expect. e.g. "I am going to tell you these 4 things. Here's thing number 1."
  • Don't say things like "finally" or other words which could make the audience think they're just waiting for the end of the presentation. You should have a mutual understanding that everyone is excited to be there.

Those are just a few key points I specifically remember from my presentation.

Other things I've heard recently:

  • Put things like your Twitter handle or other key contact info in the corner of each slide so anybody live-tweeting etc. can do so more easily.
  • Prepare for your talk and definitely don't start the talk by saying how unprepared you are or apologizing in advance for anything. You are on stage and there to rock it!
