I totally agree that open source fits and will help you get the most out of the project in the long run in terms of overall fulfillment of potential and user value.
What are the long term goals of the project? Nice sustainable side project? Full income? Scalable startup? What are your approx costs now and what would they be if it really took off?
User growth is not one-size-fits-all to say the least, but at a glance I could say that your landing page could be refined to kind of get right to the point a bit better. Video would be awesome. But that will only be one small piece.
