Great post! So, many nuggets of wisdom!

I also love learning in public ❤️

My summary of this post:

  • You don’t have to be an expert - Everyone is at different stages of learning

  • It’s okay to be wrong - Admit you are wrong, and learn from it

  • Facing your fears helps you grow - Become friends with your fears, and look towards the opportunities on the other side

  • community support is a motivator - Surround yourself with supportive people for encouragement and to keep you going

  • Perfection is the enemy of progress - Don’t wait until your work is perfect to share it. Share “updates” along the way or document your journey.

  • Personal Brand - Don’t wait for someone to advocate for you. Personal branding is self-advocacy.

  • Ignore the numbers - Don’t get caught up in the views

  • Celebrate - Don’t forget to celebrate your progress/success/wins!

The one thing many folks don’t talk about learning in public and branding is that the benefits compounds like stocks.

You should think of it like an investment to your future yourself.

How do you plan to learn in public? Comment below!

As far as how I plan to learn in public in the upcoming year, I started a Medium blog that I want to be somewhat consistent with posting about my ongoing learning journey and I’ve also thought about getting into TikTok as well.

This article is amazing! As a developer that is trying to share in public but is scared, this is inspiring me to move out of my comfort zone and to "learn in public."

This also reminded me of an article I read a few months ago where publishing a work increases luck. Thank you for this article!

This is everything!

I keep hearing that learning in public is important to growth but, I find it difficult to know what to share.

Thank you for the clear and practical advice.

I'm committed to learning in public in 2023.

I will decide exactly how in the next few days.

I have learnt a lot from your article, in fact this is what I started doing with my Twitter this week, I always felt like I didn't have anything to share, but looking at my notes, I have seen there is a lot

Learning in public really helps to put you in front of people, no one will ever know you exist if you keep hiding in your shell, I have learnt this the hard way, thank you!

Thank you for writing this blog. I have had this fear of judgement from online folks about my learning gaps, but I really liked to read "authenticity over perfection" part. That is very motivating to me.

I recently worked up the courage to start learning in public and created a blog. It's scary to put yourself out there before you're sure of yourself and face ridicule. But after learning so much from others who were brave enough to share their lessons I thought I should just go for it. I've also noticed that I'm learning more since I started summarizing the content for my blog. It's scary but exciting!

This is excellent! Thank you so much for this super valuable resource! I love how you reiterate learning in public and break down just how much it helps you actually learn, stay consistent (on your own terms) and see your own progress as well as shows prospective employers what you offer. I will definitely reference this often! Thanks again!!

Awesomely written. As a means to expand my tech toolset I adopted this method of public learning to keep myself at learning SQLAlchemy and I did write a series on it here on dev.to. I wouldn't say I've mastered it but right now I can integrate it into some new works.

This post is also serving as a good reminder that I need to get back at it, so thank you.

Learning in public is a powerful concept that encourages individuals to openly share their learning journeys, progress, and insights with the wider community. Embracing this approach not only benefits the learner but also contributes to a culture of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement. I tried this technique for a month some time ago. It takes a lot of time, but it's really effective.
