Print Christmas Ornaments in 20 Minutes: Settings and Six Flat Designs

Flat ornaments are the easiest holiday print: 3 mm thick, no supports, about 20 minutes each. Here is how to get clean results, plus the designs I made.

Settings

  • PLA, 0.2 mm layers, 2 walls, 15% infill
  • Print flat on the bed, no brim needed
  • White, gold or silver filament looks best on a tree
  • Use 0.28 mm layers if you need a dozen in one evening

Designs

  • 6-arm snowflake, 80 mm: the thin arms need a clean first layer, so level and clean the bed
  • 5-point star, 76 mm, with a recessed face for contrast with a second colour
  • 3-tier tree, 60 x 98 mm
  • Heart, 70 mm, with a raised rim
  • Round bauble, 72 mm, with a star cutout
  • Gift tag, 78 mm, with a flat panel to write on

Tips

  • Put the hanging hole at 4 mm diameter minimum so twine and hooks fit after shrink
  • Paint pens work on PLA after a quick wipe with isopropyl
  • Stack three ornaments in the slicer with 0.2 mm gaps to print a batch faster than one by one

The sets are on Cults3D for $1.99 each pack, and a single snowflake is $0.99:
