The first thing I coded was an Everquest 7-page website in plain-old HTML. I was 14 and I had figured out HTML from right-clicking and wondering if 'View Source' was how it was made.
I think mine was FKiSS, a paper-doll making program I found in middle school. You needed to use their scripting language if you wanted to add snap-to, blinking dolls, or easter egg animations, which were considered requirements for the "good" dolls. There were a ton of girls and women in the community who were learning to script for the first time this way. I wonder how many of us stuck with it.
