I tried 4 Video Editing Agents

Hey friends, the video editing world is getting a fun new twist. AI agents are learning to cut footage, and a bunch of tools are racing to make that happen. Let me start with Filmidi, since that is the one I know best, and then tour the rest.

Filmidi

Filmidi is the native one, aiming for Premiere level depth with agent drivability. It runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux, with hardware acceleration on Apple Silicon and a growing library of editable motion templates.

What I like: Free to use. Full NLE depth, fast native performance, and motion graphics you can edit by hand or by agent.
What I find tricky: it is still young, with a few gaps like HEVC export and plugins, But the developers are working on it.

Palmier

Palmier is a macOS native editor that feels like a friendly cousin of Premiere, but with AI generation built right into the timeline. You can ask Claude or Codex to make edits, generate images or video, and export to FCP or Resolve when you are done.

What I like: it is fast on Mac, the generative features are genuinely useful, and you are never locked in.
What I find tricky: it is Mac only.

Vyra

Vyra lives in your browser and edits your real footage from a plain text description. No install,Just log in and edit right in the browser. It is aimed at people who want a finished video without learning a timeline.

What I like: zero setup, and great for non editors.
What I find tricky: less precision for frame level work, and everything runs in the cloud so big projects can feel slow.No free tier.

Diffusion Studio

Diffusion Studio is the open source one, and it is basically the VS Code of video editing. Every edit is code, so your agent can drive it from the terminal and you can review the diff like a pull request.

What I like: it is free, open source, and wonderfully agent friendly.
What I find tricky: writing JSX for a simple cut can feel like overkill, and it is lighter on broadcast color and audio mixing.

Tool Platform Agent support Motion graphics Standout feature Main gap Best for
Filmidi Mac only(Windows,Linux in waitlist) Commands and MCP Editable templates, agent or manual Native NLE depth with GPU acceleration HEVC export and plugins Native depth and motion graphics
Palmier Mac only MCP for Claude and Codex Basic, via generative media Generative images and video in timeline Mac only, heavy UI Mac users wanting generative media
Vyra Browser Chat and hosted MCP Templates from prompts Zero setup Less precision, cloud only Quick cuts for non editors
Diffusion Studio Mac, Windows, Web Terminal and many agents Code driven scenes Open source, code first workflow JSX verbose for simple cuts Openness and code first workflows

The friendly takeaway

Honestly, there is no single winner and that is okay. Filmidi is great if you want native depth and motion graphics. Palmier is great for Mac users who want generative media. Vyra is perfect for quick browser cuts. Diffusion Studio wins on openness and code first workflows. Try them, see which one clicks, and have fun editing.
