Start early; pick projects you use and read their issues/labels (“good first issue”).
Join the project chat/Discord; ask concise questions; ship one tiny fix fast.
Focus on docs, tests, and tooling—impactful and welcomed.
Be respectful in reviews, iterate quickly, and celebrate small wins.

Hi! New user of dev.to, but I'm interested in participating. Are we writing about our journey with a project or was there a mission we needed to complete? I saw previous posts mention Hacktoberfest, but wasn't sure if they were referring to a yearly write or a Hacktoberfest mission post. Hopefully I can still participate with a bit more understanding. Sorry for the noob question.
