This was a very helpful post. I've been seeing a lot of posts on various SM platforms featuring code snippets processed on the Carbon website but until now, had never really known about the site. Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it!
Great to see a list of good code-capture extensions. I hadn't heard of either Carbon or Polacode. Personally, I prefer to include actual code (formatted for whatever specific language it's representing), vs code images, in blog posts and articles. This provides the most compatibility with screen-readers and other accessibility tools, and allows for copy/pasting. I can see this most useful for posting on social media though. Thanks!
Agree with what you said!
Most of the time, copy/paste works best but on social media that is not a possibility!
When would you use screenshot vs copy-pasta in a code fenced language tag? I would imagine posting somewhere that doesn't have clde fences/markdown capabilities, but are there other situations?
Thanks for the sweet extension! Bookmarked this post 👍
Personally, I use these tools mostly when posting on Instagram or I need to show part of the code in videos (and I do not have a screencast of it). On blog posts and articles, If there is the possibility, then I think copy-paste the code would be a much better solution! :D
Happy Monday!
I agree that code screenshots looks beautiful when created with Carbon or Polacode, but I prefer to share code as text in order to copy/paste it without an effort.
Agree! I prefer to share the code as well. However, that would not work on social media like Instagram!
Thanks for this post. Both of these tools are new to me!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent extension! I didn't know her and now I'll adopt her
