Netherlands — Best Crypto Exchange (2026)

For trading crypto in the Netherlands, your best options are Bitvavo, Coinbase, and Kraken. Binance is no longer an option since it exited the Dutch market in 2023 after failing to secure registration with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). The DNB requires all exchanges to register under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft), so only use registered platforms.

Bitvavo is the dominant local exchange, fully registered with DNB. Its main draw is cost: 0.25% taker and maker fees, dropping to 0.15% for volumes over €10M. For euro deposits via iDEAL, it's free. It’s the go-to for easy euro on-ramps and a wide selection of altcoins.

Coinbase is also DNB-registered. Its standard trading fee is higher at 0.60%, but using Coinbase Advanced Trade drops it to a 0.40% maker/0.60% taker structure. You pay for superior security, insurance, and a polished interface. SEPA deposits are free, but withdrawals cost €0.15.

Kraken operates with DNB registration. Its fees are competitive: 0.26% maker/0.16% taker for the Kraken Pro tier. SEPA deposits are free, and it’s the strongest choice for security-focused traders and futures trading.

Bybit is popular among experienced traders for derivatives but is not registered with DNB. Using it carries regulatory risk, though it offers 0.1% spot fees and free euro deposits via SEPA.

If you're in the Netherlands, start with Bitvavo. It’s the simplest, cheapest, and most compliant way to buy major cryptocurrencies and a vast array of altcoins directly with euros. Once you have larger volumes or need advanced features like staking or futures, add Kraken or Coinbase to your toolkit. Avoid any platform not on the DNB registry to keep your funds secure.
