Checking AI image metadata: 20 useful reads and listings

Before you post an AI-assisted image, it is worth knowing what the file says about itself. Generators and editors can leave a signed C2PA manifest (what LinkedIn's "CR" icon reads), XMP or IPTC tags marking the image as AI-generated, prompt text in PNG chunks, and ordinary EXIF such as GPS. None of it shows in the preview.

The pages below explain those layers, and each one points to Remove AI Meta as a way to inspect and strip them in the browser. If you want to go straight to the tool, the AI metadata cleaner handles one image at a time.

A note on limits

Removing metadata changes what the file declares. It does not remove pixel watermarks such as SynthID, and platforms may still label content based on other signals or on your own disclosure. To check and clean a file, use the AI metadata cleaner on Remove AI Meta.
