Thank you for such an honest and heartfelt story. I feel like today's culture makes failure a forbidden subject...we present lives on social media where everything is perfect and we use filters to hide all of the imperfections which make us unique in photos. I knew people who would go to the airport for lunch so they could check in on Instagram and pretend they were travelling somewhere...it's sad.
After becoming very frustrated in the corporate world, I am looking at freelancing. It's frightening and I know I will learn many things the hard way. My own parents won't even support me and think I'm delusional, so it's doubly hard having to push family away to pursue my dreams.
I am bookmarking this because I feel like I will need to be reminded of many of these lessons. Also, you have a very handsome cat!
haha Thank you Scott, yes my cat is awesome!
Yes freelancing is scary but what is the worst thing that can happen? Fail? I always remind myself how many times some famous scientists failed their experiments before finding a cure or a discovery.
The concept of 'Fail' is very relative, for me is just another step in the process of making.
Thank you for your kind words!
It's an awesome article that talks about your own mistakes in life would love to hear more about it.
I kind of had the same demons as well while starting out and heading into startup world knowing full well that my peers will be looking down on my life choices.
Thank you Max! I'm glad you liked it 😅. Some times good reads like The subtle Art of no giving a f*ck can help a lot!
Good thing this post of yours is in my feed. I am actually on a phase where my employer owns my ideas due to NDAs that I signed in the first place. A great eye opener and I think its time for me to switch my gears, one at a time.
The good news is many of them are unenforceable in court. However, I am not a lawyer and you should definitely speak to one before you give the finger to a NDA!
In the US, yes most NDAs are unenforceable; however, where I'm from (Philippines) employers includes NDA as part of the employment contract. So, in a nutshell, don't sign the whole deal, we'll look for another-- it is legit though since that my country's Labor Code loophole.
NDAs are a bitch! It's important to be aware of the consequences of signing them.
This was a really important reminder for me. Thanks for sharing and i'm looking forward to seeing more of what you write.
Thank you Ian! I'm glad this piece of myself resonates with you. 🖖
Wuuw!! you are such a brave person.
Thank you for sharing your story because definitely i'll back reading it when i will feel that life's is knocking me down.
I don't consider myself brave, maybe an educated fool! thank you Meryem for those kind words 🙌🏻
No, indeed you are brave and kind and a loving son, and what proves that is that you left everything behind to be there for your mother. Your mother is lucky to have a sonn like you.
Also, making mistakes and fooling around is part of our lifes, so there is no need to blame yourself or regret anything. The most important thing is that everything passed now and you have learned.
Have a Good day ^
This is excellent. I like these kinds of article that puts realities into perspectives. I have been somewhere similar for another sets of reasons. In the end I made up my mind , nothing is worth than my mental health. Glad you made the U-turn you greatly needed.
Thanks Ola! yes, I'm glad too about this quality of life improvement. I wouldn't go back to my old life.
