You definitely need friends. Loneliness can kill. Just go to google scholar and search for "loneliness health" and you are going to see that there is extensive research on it. You don't need a lot of friends. A handful of good quality relationships is definitely enough.

That is true and very sad. But loneliness is a different thing than not having friends.

I'm not lonely. I have a lovely family. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ (Sometimes it would be cool to be alone just for a couple of hours ๐Ÿ˜„)

You can make that time if you plan for it.

That you have a family is probably a big contributor for why you do not need/do feel that you do not need friends. You do get your social interaction from them. Hopefully you can call your family friends? :)

But without such a family I think there is a need for friends even for very introverted people. Not everyone and not all the time, but as a social and tribal creature it is ingrained in us.

There are coping mechanisms to work around not having those needs met, but I think those are mostly band-aids.

In the end it comes down to the individual. And as a matter of fact many people do feel lonely. With or without friends or partners.
