Uber plans to extend ChatGPT Work to about 30,000 employees after a 1,000-person trial.
Early reported uses included analyzing operations data, adapting training materials across markets and languages, and creating interactive dashboards.
Uber says the rollout’s exact use is still undecided.
The test involved employees from various departments, including finance, operations, and product development. According to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s vice president of engineering, about 80% of the early adopters were not engineers.
Employees used the tool to analyze complex data about Uber’s operations, identify trends, and formulate recommendations. They also used it to adapt training materials to different markets and languages, and to create personalized interactive dashboards for their daily work.
Uber hasn’t yet decided exactly how its employees will use the tool. It wants to give teams the opportunity to try out different uses. Earlier this year, Uber spent two weeks working with 30 AI engineers and teams across the company, aiming to automate key parts of their work.

Uber did not disclose how much the expansion will cost. It will monitor how employees use the tool, what work processes they develop, and whether it helps them work more efficiently. It will then evaluate the results and use what it learns to guide the company’s AI development. According to Uber, OpenAI worked closely with it on the ChatGPT Work integration.
