I built EchoPod — a Flutter app that turns real podcasts into immersive language lessons.
What it does
- AI Transcripts — every episode gets a word-level transcript with precise audio sync
- Tap-to-translate — tap any word or phrase to translate it instantly, with support for 150+ languages
- Real content — learn from actual podcasts (not textbook dialogues), across topics you already care about
- Offline — download episodes and transcripts for learning on the go
How it works technically
Built with Flutter for iOS and Android, using a clean architecture with Riverpod for state management, Drift for local SQLite storage, and a Supabase backend. Transcription runs through Groq API (Whisper large-v3-turbo) with Cloudflare Workers handling the AI pipeline and Podcast Index proxying.
Why I built it
I wanted to learn languages through content I actually enjoy — podcasts about tech, culture, and life — not scripted lessons. The closest tools either didn't have transcripts, didn't sync well with audio, or charged a subscription for basic translation features.
EchoPod is free on both platforms:
- iOS: https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/echopod/id6754240584
- Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clothpath.echopod
Would love feedback from the DEV community — especially on the Flutter architecture, the transcript-sync UX, or anything that feels off.
Built by ClothPath.
