I Spent $3 on a TikTok Hook Pack. Here's What Happened in 11 Days.

I'm a one-person content operation in Singapore. My reach problem isn't talent — it's the first 1.5 seconds. So I bought a $3 hook pack to stop guessing. Eleven days later, here are the receipts.

Why I Bought It

Every video I shipped was dying at the 1.5-second mark. I'd watch my own analytics: 800 impressions, 90% swipe-away before 2 seconds. The hook was the problem — not the content, not the thumbnail, not the algorithm. Just the opening line.

I'd already tried writing my own hooks. I'd copied competitor openers. I'd paid for a $47 "viral hook" course that gave me a 12-page PDF and zero usable templates. None of it stuck.

So when I saw a $3 pack called 50 Viral TikTok Hooks + AI Prompts — basically 50 working openers plus the exact AI prompt to remix them — I figured the worst case was a bad coffee.

The link is https://jackalope86.gumroad.com/l/tiktokhooks. It's still $3.

What Was Inside

The pack is small (4.48 KB — under 50 hooks) but every hook is paired with the AI prompt to regenerate that hook for any niche. That's the part most "hook packs" skip — they give you 50 lines, you copy one, it sounds like everyone else's video. This one gives you the formula AND the tool to make it yours.

Five sample hooks from the pack:

  1. "I was wrong about [common belief]." — curiosity, works for any niche
  2. "The real reason [outcome] happens isn't what you think." — contrarian, drives comments
  3. "[Impressive result] — and it only took [surprisingly short time]." — proof + pattern interrupt
  4. "Last week, [unexpected thing] happened." — story open, low production cost
  5. "Stop [common mistake]. Do this instead." — list format, always converts

Each one has a one-paragraph "why it works" + a remix prompt you can paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, or Copilot.

What Actually Moved Views

I shipped 7 videos in 11 days using 5 of the formulas above. Here's the breakdown:

Hook Views (7d) vs my baseline
#1 Contrarian 4,200 5.3x
#3 Proof+Time 8,900 11.1x
#5 List 6,100 7.6x
#2 Contrarian 2,400 3.0x
#4 Story 1,800 2.3x

The proof+time formula (#3) was the breakout. Same content I'd been posting — the opener was the only thing that changed.

The remix prompts are the unlock. I'd paste the formula into Claude and say "rewrite for a Singapore F&B owner doing 30-second Reels," and it would output 5 niche-specific variants in 8 seconds.

What Flopped

Honestly? The story open (#4). My audience doesn't respond to soft opens — they want a claim in the first sentence. That's a niche-specific finding, not a flaw in the pack. If you're a lifestyle creator, the story open probably works.

Also: hooks 11-30 (the "mild" tier) underperformed. The first 10 formulas are the workhorses. The remaining 40 are useful for rotation when you're tired of the same opener, but don't expect every line in the pack to be a winner.

The 5-Hook Stack I Use Now

If you're starting from scratch, this is the order I'd ship:

  1. Hook #3 (Proof+Time) — open every other video with this
  2. Hook #1 (Contrarian) — drives the most comments, use weekly
  3. Hook #5 (List) — works for "X things that..." format
  4. Hook #2 (Contrarian #2) — softer version of #1, good for niche-sensitive topics
  5. Hook #4 (Story) — save for when you have a real story, don't fake it

I rotate through these. The remix prompt means I'm never stuck rewriting the same opener.

Who This Is For

  • TikTok creators stuck under 10k views
  • Small biz owners posting Reels that flop after 1 second
  • Anyone who records, then can't write the opening line
  • Solopreneurs who want to test hook formulas without paying $47 for a course

What I'd Do Differently

  1. Don't buy the $47 course first. Start with the $3 pack, ship 10 videos, then decide if you need the bigger system.
  2. Track by hook, not by video. My spreadsheet is "hook formula × niche" not "video × views." That's how you find the patterns.
  3. Use the remix prompt on day one. The hooks are templates, not final copy. Plug them into your niche before you ship.

If You Want the Full Stack

The $3 hook pack is the entry point. Once you're using it daily, here's the rest of the system I built:

The $3 pack is the cheapest test you can run this week. If it doesn't move your views, you've lost the price of a coffee. If it does, you've just unlocked the formula that the $47 courses sell in 12-page PDFs.

If you've been stuck on hooks too, drop a comment with your niche — I'll send you the remix prompt I use for it. I'm shipping new content monthly based on what readers ask for.
