Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, Bodrum—the perfect Turkey trip can easily turn into a multi-city adventure. And when you're moving between airports, hotels, restaurants and sightseeing spots, having reliable mobile data is no longer optional.
The question is which eSIM should you buy.
SIMZY and Airalo are two of the names travelers are likely to compare when looking for a Turkey eSIM in 2026. Airalo is the established option many travelers already know, while SIMZY is competing with destination, regional and global eSIM plans and a growing selection of data, calling and SMS options.
I compared the two based on the things that actually matter when you're traveling: price, data allowance, validity, network, calls and SMS, top-ups, activation, hotspot use and overall convenience.
And there is one Turkey-specific detail you should know before you buy.
Why Your Turkey eSIM Choice Matters
A Turkey eSIM needs to do more than simply connect your phone.
You may use it for:
- Google Maps while exploring Istanbul
- Translating menus and signs
- Booking taxis and transport
- WhatsApp calls and messages
- Finding restaurants and attractions
- Sharing photos and videos
- Checking flight information
- Mobile banking
- Booking hotels and activities
- Working remotely
For a short city break, 3–5 GB might be enough.
For a two- or three-week trip involving Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya and other destinations, you'll probably want 10 GB or more-or an unlimited option.
And if you're planning to make traditional phone calls or send SMS, a data-only eSIM may not be enough.
Airalo's Turkey eSIM: The Established Choice
Airalo's Turkey eSIM is called Merhaba.
Its current Turkey offering uses Turk Telekom (Avea) as the primary network.
Airalo currently offers a wide range of fixed-data packages.
For example, its Turkey plans include:
- 1 GB / 3 days — $4
- 3 GB / 3 days — $6
- 3 GB / 7 days — $6.50
- 5 GB / 5 days — $9
- 5 GB / 15 days — $9.50
- 10 GB / 10 days — $14.50
- 10 GB / 15 days — $15
- 20 GB / 20 days — $22
- 5 GB / 30 days — $10
- 10 GB / 30 days — $15.50
- 20 GB / 30 days — $22.50
- 50 GB / 30 days — $34.50
Airalo also offers unlimited Turkey packages.
Current listed prices include:
- 3 days — $11.50
- 5 days — $18.50
- 7 days — $24.50
- 10 days — $34.50
- 15 days — $39
- 30 days — $69
There is one catch with the unlimited plans: Airalo says the 10-day plan is reduced to 1 Mbps after 3 GB of usage per day, and the 30-day unlimited plan has the same 3 GB/day threshold before the reduced speed applies.
SIMZY's Turkey eSIM: The Challenger
SIMZY takes a slightly different approach.
Its eSIM marketplace lets travelers compare local, regional and global plans, with Turkey listed as a destination. The current SIMZY website shows Turkey plans starting from $4.99.
The broader SIMZY marketplace currently has thousands of plans and allows users to filter by:
- Destination
- Duration
- Data allowance
- Price
- Unlimited plans
- SMS
- Calling
- Geography
That last part is important.
SIMZY isn't positioning itself purely as a data-only marketplace. Its current terms describe its mobile services as including voice calling, messaging and data, while individual plans determine which features are included.
For example, SIMZY currently offers European plans with combinations such as:
2 GB + 100 SMS + 100 minutes
and:
10 GB + 500 SMS + 500 minutes
as well as unlimited data plans with unlimited SMS and minutes on selected packages.
Pricing: Which Turkey eSIM Is Cheaper?
This is where Airalo has a strong headline advantage.
Airalo currently starts at:
$4 for 1 GB / 3 days.
SIMZY currently lists Turkey plans from:
$4.99 for 3 GB / 7 days.
But comparing only those two numbers isn't particularly useful.
Calls and SMS: SIMZY Has the More Interesting Proposition
This is where the comparison stops being purely about data.
Airalo's current Turkey Merhaba packages are listed as data-only.
That means you'll generally use internet-based services for communication:
- Messenger
- Telegram
- Signal
- FaceTime
- iMessage
For most tourists, that's completely fine.
But what if you need traditional calls or SMS?
That's where SIMZY has an advantage when a compatible Turkey plan includes those features.
SIMZY's marketplace specifically lets customers filter for plans with SMS and calls, and its service terms include voice calling and messaging among its mobile services.
Speed: The Network Matters More Than the Brand
This is something many eSIM reviews get wrong.
A travel eSIM provider doesn't necessarily operate its own Turkish cellular network.
The provider connects you to local carrier infrastructure.
That means two eSIMs from different companies can potentially behave differently because they're routed through different networks or have different roaming arrangements.
For Airalo's Turkey Merhaba product, the listed primary network is Turk Telekom.
For SIMZY, check the network information attached to the specific Turkey plan before purchasing.
If you're going to spend most of your time in Istanbul, either may be perfectly adequate.
If you're heading into less populated areas, network selection becomes much more important.
