In April of 2025, we travelled to Dhanbad for our first national level hackathon. In IIT(ISM) Dhanbad we are there to compete with 100+ teams. The campus, the people, and almost everything was reminding myself for failure of my JEE three years back and it somehow pushed us to the stage where we were just happy to be there, winning the whole thing was not something we are bothered about.
There were 8 tracks and I was obsessed with getting an internship so I opted for one sponsored track which was promising to offer direct interviews for internships. In simple words, we were asked to by+uild a centralized dashboard for users who are using multiple demat accounts on different platforms. And there would be few other analytics and features.
One thing I heavily underestimated was the time it takes to set up the third party APIs of these platforms. Both the documentation or AI were very little helpful and it takes us hours just to fetch the data from these platforms. It left us with very little time to write logic for our operations. At the end we completed the project with very basic UI but a functional web app but during presentation only it was clear that the judges were not impressed at all. It could have been better and rectifying two or three thingts might result us win the entire thing but it was one of my best performances in hackathon individually and a great experience overall which i have no complaints about. In November we returned our focus again to our own home campus for the next edition of BPUT Hackathon. Almost with the same team again and a single change we choose a problem statement sponsored by Rooman Technologies. We had to make an AI Powered Learning Assistant. The problem statement had around 86 teams and 5 would be shortlisted by the mid evaluation. So we decided to make the demo as feature rich as possible. By this time all of us have been engaged in the internship(this part is for another blog) so we are much more experienced in product building. The team chemistry is starting to peak. We decided to head one feature each so we will have a really well rounded project at the end.
I built a feature named "Smart Planner" here the student will write the study goal in plain English and set the deadline and pacing. The timetable will be created in the calendar format. It will consist of quizzes, lectures and notes. The architecture was such as it will be RAG based and if sufficient informations are not in RAG then Gemini API will be used. It was the most comfortable win we ever had and probably I wi ll ever have. We aced every single evaluation and presentation flawlessly. In result we were offered a 3 months internship in office at Bangalore.
