Theme of the month
Remembering.
This month feels like it has been a year long. There's just too much that has happened for it to be possible it's only been four short weeks.
After about 6 months of searching, my wife and I finally found a house! We're preparing to close next week, just two weeks ahead of my wife's due date. My family is about to see two massive changes in under a month, our lives will never be the same. We're entering a new season of sleepless nights, new joy and possibilities. But, we're also saying goodbye to a long season of frenetic searching and stress. God was with us through every step of the seasons that led us here, and he will continue to be.
I've been looking back. I wanted to see, with hindsight, the ways that God's hand has been on our lives. He guided the sale of our old home, gave us a great relationship with our parents so that we had somewhere to stay, protected us from homes that wouldn't have been a good fit for our family, and kept us (mostly) sane though the process. This side of the journey my faith is stronger, even if I wouldn't want to do it again.
I've also been looking back to my childhood, since we've got a little one on the way. One of my core memories is playing our family's GameCube, sitting on the basement floor, staring at a 35" tube TV. It's made me start to think about the kinds of experiences that my child will have, and how it sort of makes me sad that she doesn't get to grow up in the world at the time that I did. I wonder if every generation of new parents feels this way.
Small wins
- BOUGHT A HOUSE
- Using AI way more liberally than I used to. Trust but verify... hopefully there's no massive bugs to report here.
- Making real progress on an accounting integration. Complex projects like this can stall out in my brain, but it's moving forward nicely.
Worth a read (or play...)
- Pines by David Crouch - I inhaled this book. Scenic mystery/thriller set in a middle of nowhere town
- Batman: The Video Game (NES) - Punishingly hard. Save states are your friend. Use a CRT if possible!
Other things
Reading fiction actually makes reading fun. When it's fun, I can use that momentum to read something information dense.
Time-blocking gives a solid shape to my day. Not having to decide what I'm going to work on actually makes me work a lot better.
SEGA Genesis games on a CRT is just a vibe. I don't make the rules.
