1. Carbohydrates: They are the main
source of energy in our body
sugar, potatos,bread, rice
yam, puris, roti.
2. Fat: They provide more energy
than carbohydrate, because of
higher percentage of carbon and
hydrogen and less oxygen
than that of carbohydrate - oils,
groundnuts, nuts, meat, milk,
ghee, butter and soyabin.
3.Vitamins:They are necessary for
normal growth, good health,
good vision, proper digestion,
healthy teeth, bones and gums.
Almost all the foods contain one
or the other vitamins required by
our body, like whole grain cereals,
milk, fish, meat and vegetables.
Classification of Vitamins:All
vitamins can be divided into
two groups or
classes according to
their solubility in water
and oils.
Class 1: Vitamin A, D,E and K are
soluble in oil, also called fat
soluble vitamins.
Class 2: Vitamin B-complex and
vitamin Care soluble in water,
where vitamin B-complex
represents a group of
eleven vitamins.
Vitamin A:It is good eye-sight
(specially the night vision),
normal skin and hair.
Milk, eggs, fish, butter,ghee
is also called ratinal.
Vitamin B1:It is essential for
growth, metabolism,
carbohydrates, nerves
functioning of heart
and muscles.
Sources are milk, sea-food,
grain cereals and soyabeans.
