With Hacktoberfest 2026 officially underway, the entire dev community is buzzing. Everywhere I look on Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and right here on DEV, people are talking about repositories, issues, and merging Pull Requests (PRs).
As a beginner who is still figuring out the difference between a fork and a clone, I will admit: I was completely intimidated.
But this year, I decided to stop sitting on the sidelines. I am officially jumping in, and I wanted to share my perspective, my goals, and how I plan to survive my very first Hacktoberfest.
