I vote framework / libraries instead vanilla js, even pure js is great, but when mix js with html/css - 98% of times - then we shortly find ourself even single medium complex webpage creation still lot of extra work.
My favourite framework is react ( preact if builded size is important ), which one give the power of development application without mandatory write html files. Plus get a great structure of component and one way data binding.
