ABILITY360: Building a More Accessible Future for Persons with Disabilities

What I Built

What if accessibility wasn't just about removing physical barriers, but about creating an ecosystem where persons with disabilities can discover opportunities, build skills, find employment, and make their needs heard?

That question led us to build ABILITY360.

Our project focuses on one of the biggest challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PwDs): the gap between ability, opportunity, and accessibility.

A person with a disability may have the skills and potential to build a career, but still face barriers when trying to find suitable opportunities, understand accessibility requirements, navigate digital platforms, or communicate their needs.

ABILITY360 is our attempt to bring these pieces together into a single platform.

🌍 The Problem

When we started researching the problem, one thing became clear:

Accessibility is much bigger than ramps and elevators.

It includes:

• Access to education
• Access to employment
• Digital accessibility
• Skill development
• Career guidance
• Workplace accessibility
• Awareness of available opportunities
• The ability to communicate specific accessibility requirements

A job opportunity may exist, but a candidate might not know whether the workplace is accessible.

A student might have the skills required for a career but not know what path to follow.

A person might face an accessibility problem but have no structured way to report it.

We wanted to build a platform that connects these different parts of the accessibility ecosystem.

ABILITY360 is a digital platform designed around the idea of 360-degree accessibility.

Instead of looking at disability through a single lens, the platform aims to connect:

People → Skills → Opportunities → Accessibility → Community

The platform provides a foundation where users can:

Discover career and employment opportunities relevant to their skills and interests.

🧭 Discover Career Paths

Users can explore different career directions and understand the skills required to move toward them.

🤖 AI Mentor

An AI-powered mentor can help users understand career paths, identify potential skills to develop, and navigate their learning journey.

📈 Track Progress

Users can track their learning and career-development progress instead of treating career planning as a one-time activity.

🗣️ Community

Users can share their requirements, challenges, and experiences.

This community layer is particularly important because accessibility problems are often discovered by the people experiencing them.

📢 Report & Request

Users can submit accessibility requirements or problems.

These submissions can be reviewed by administrators before being published, creating a more structured and moderated community system.

We designed ABILITY360 as more than a collection of static pages.

The idea was to create a platform where accessibility isn't an isolated feature.

It becomes part of the entire user journey.

🤝 Community-Driven Accessibility

One of the features we wanted to explore was a community reporting system.

Imagine a student or job seeker encountering an accessibility problem.

Instead of the problem disappearing into a feedback form, they can submit it to ABILITY360.

The submission enters a moderation queue.

This approach allows us to maintain a layer of moderation while still giving the community a voice.

Over time, this could evolve into a database of real-world accessibility requirements and challenges.

🤖 AI as a Career Companion

Another important part of ABILITY360 is the AI Mentor.

We don't want AI to simply provide generic chatbot answers.

The goal is to make it useful as a career companion.

For example, a user could ask:

"I know basic Python and data analysis. What career paths can I explore?"

The mentor could help break that broad question into:

Career → Skills → Learning → Projects → Opportunities

Similarly, users could ask about the skills required for a particular role and use the platform to build a personalized roadmap.

The AI layer is intended to reduce the information gap that many students face when trying to navigate their careers.

💻 Technology

ABILITY360 combines modern web technologies with AI-assisted functionality.

The platform was developed with a focus on:

• AI-assisted guidance

• Public career profiles

We also used AI-assisted development tools during the hackathon to accelerate prototyping, debugging, UI iteration, and feature development.
