Introduction & What I Built
Welcome to Hacktoberfest 2026 Week 3! For this week's challenge focusing on AI agents and document intelligence, I built an AI Document Q&A & Knowledge Assistant using Python, Streamlit, and Google's Gemini API.
When dealing with large reports, invoices, or notes, searching manually takes hours. This tool allows users to upload a PDF or text document and instantly chat with it to extract precise answers.
Why Open Innovation Matters Here
Open-source developer tools and accessible generative AI models allow engineers to create local-first privacy-focused knowledge retrieval systems without relying on expensive enterprise software. It empowers individuals and small teams to build custom document agents tailored to their exact workflows.
Live Demo & Source Code
You can check out the live application and source code below:
- Live Streamlit App: AI Document Q&A Assistant
- GitHub Repository: GitHub - ai-doc-assistant
How It Works (Demo Steps)
- Enter your Gemini API Key in the sidebar.
- Upload any PDF or text document.
- Type any question related to the document content, and the AI agent retrieves and synthesizes the exact answer instantly!
Happy Hacktoberfest 2026! Let's keep building open-source tech! 🚀`
