How I Built a Bilingual, Lightweight Windows Setup & Optimization Toolkit with Electron

Hey everyone! 👋

If you are someone who frequently formats their PC, sets up new systems, or just hates dealing with bloated, manual system configurations, I've got something you might like.

Meet RhemeSetup (v2.1) — an open-source, lightweight Windows desktop application designed to streamline fresh system setups, package installations, and system maintenance.

🚀 What Does RhemeSetup Do?

Instead of running dozens of manual PowerShell scripts or downloading apps one by one on a fresh Windows install, RhemeSetup brings everything under one clean dashboard:

  • Winget Integration: Fast application search, batch installations, package presets, and system updates.
  • System Tweaks & Maintenance: Built-in performance boosters, runtime checks, registry shortcuts, and system cleanups.
  • Bilingual Support (New in v2.1!): Full interface translation for both English and Turkish.
  • Portable Executable: Zero installation required; just plug, run, and play.
  • Light/Dark Themes & Accents: Fully customizable UI (5 accent color options) saved to your local Windows user profile.

🛠️ Under the Hood (Tech Stack)

I wanted something snappy, predictable, and easy to maintain without heavy resource overhead. Here is what powers the architecture:

  • Electron & Chromium: Renders the clean HTML/CSS and vanilla JavaScript interface.
  • Node.js & Native Services: Handles underlying Windows commands, process management, and IPC communication safely.
  • Winget (Windows Package Manager): Acts as the backbone for searching, installing, and removing software packages.

📦 IPC Architecture & Command Execution

The app manages system states cleanly through Node's child process module in the Electron main process, communicating securely with the renderer process.

Here is a simplified overview of how system actions and Winget commands are handled:

🛡️ Safety & Open Source Principles

Some maintenance actions modify Windows services, default settings, or registry values. RhemeSetup provides clear logs and prompts users to review effects or create Windows restore points before applying aggressive tweaks. It is built purely for the community, transparently, and with zero tracking.

📥 Check It Out & Contribute!

The project is completely open-source under the MIT license and hosted on GitHub. You can grab the latest v2.1 Portable .exe directly from the releases or build it yourself from source:
