A slow website does not just annoy visitors. It costs enquiries, because most people leave before a slow page finishes loading.
The most common causes are simple:
First, uncompressed images. A single large PNG can be heavier than the whole rest of the page. Converting images to modern formats and resizing them to the size they are actually shown at usually gives the biggest single improvement.
Second, too much JavaScript on first load. Every script, chat widget, and tracker adds time. Load only what the first screen actually needs, and defer the rest.
Third, no caching. Returning visitors should not have to download the same files again. Basic caching headers and a CDN can make repeat visits feel instant.
Fourth, heavy page builders and unused plugins. Each extra layer adds weight. Keep the stack simple and remove anything the page does not use.
How to check: test on a real phone on a mobile connection, not only on fast office Wi-Fi. Measure the first load, fix the biggest file first, and re-test. Small, repeated fixes beat a complete rebuild in most cases.
Speed is not a technical detail. It is the first impression your business makes online.
