n8n: Reddit RSS Stops on November 13. Swap the RSS Read Node for One HTTP Request (ProLevelMax)

Disclosure: ProLevelMax is a third-party product. I built a free lesson around it and joined its referral program, so one link below is a referral link. This is my own write-up, not an official ProLevelMax guide.

A lot of small marketing and ops teams have one quiet n8n workflow that matters more than it looks. It reads a subreddit through an RSS Read node every morning, or it watches Reddit for a brand name, a competitor or a problem the product solves. The posts get summed up by AI and dropped into Slack, and that feed turns into blog ideas, ad angles and sales calls.

Reddit announced on r/modnews on September 30, 2026 that its RSS feeds stop working on November 13. After that, the RSS Read node gets nothing, and nobody notices for a week because "no new posts" looks exactly like a quiet day.

Put a price on it before you fix it

In my lesson the example is Maya Chen, the marketing manager at a made-up bookkeeping app called Tallgrass Books. Her workflow reads r/smallbusiness at 8:00 AM every weekday.

If the workflow dies and she reads the subreddit by hand instead, say that takes 30 minutes a day. That is about 2.5 hours a week, or about $540 a month at $50 an hour. These are example numbers, so swap in your own.

The replacement I use costs $0.003 per call with ProLevelMax. One call a day is about 9 cents a month. That math is why I didn't bother registering a Reddit developer app for this.

What changes in the workflow

Only one node. Everything after it can stay exactly as it is, as long as the new node hands on the same field names the RSS Read node used.

The replacement is four nodes, which came from ProLevelMax's founder:

  1. Every day: a Schedule Trigger set to every 24 hours.
  2. Search Reddit (ProLevelMax): an HTTP Request node, POST to https://prolevelmax.com/v1/run.
  3. One item per post: a Split Out node on the items field.
  4. Map to RSS-style fields: an Edit Fields node that renames ProLevelMax's fields to title, link, published, score and comments.

Your Slack, Sheets or AI nodes connect after node 4 and never know anything changed.

Step 1: get a key

Sign up at prolevelmax.com and verify your email. New users get $1 of free credit, no card required, which covers over 300 calls at $0.003. In the console, open API keys and create a key. n8n sends it as a bearer token.

In Data sources you'll find the two sources this post uses:

  • Post search (procli_reddit_d): searches Reddit for posts that match a query. This is the keyword monitor.
  • Subreddit feed (procli_reddit_c): the latest or top posts of one subreddit. Its sort field takes BEST, HOT, NEW, TOP, CONTROVERSIAL or RISING.

Step 2: the HTTP Request node

Delete the RSS Read node and add an HTTP Request node in its place:

  • Method: POST
  • URL: https://prolevelmax.com/v1/run (the same endpoint for every source)
  • Authentication: Generic Credential Type, then Generic Auth Type: Bearer Auth. Choose Create new credential and paste your key into Bearer Token.
  • Turn on Send Body, set Body Content Type to JSON and Specify Body to Using JSON.

For a keyword monitor, the body is:

{
  "scraper": "procli_reddit_d",
  "input": {
    "query": "\"your keyword\"",
    "search_type": "post",
    "sort": "NEW",
    "time_range": "day",
    "need_format": true
  }
}
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The escaped quotes around your keyword make it an exact-phrase search. Drop them if you want a looser match.

For a whole subreddit instead, the body is shorter:

{
  "scraper": "procli_reddit_c",
  "input": {
    "subreddit_name": "smallbusiness",
    "sort": "NEW"
  }
}
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The response has items (the posts), count, page (a cursor for the next page) and cost. Each run of the node is one call.

If you want to check your key before you touch n8n, the same call from a terminal looks like this:

curl -s -X POST https://prolevelmax.com/v1/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PROLEVELMAX_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"scraper":"procli_reddit_c","input":{"subreddit_name":"smallbusiness","sort":"NEW"}}'
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Step 3: one item per post, with the old field names

The HTTP Request node returns one item with an array inside it. Add a Split Out node and split out the items field, so each post becomes its own item.

Then add an Edit Fields node. With need_format set to true, every post's fields sit in a post object, and this is the mapping:

Old RSS field ProLevelMax field Expression
title post.postTitle {{ $json.post.postTitle }}
link post.url {{ $json.post.url }}
published post.createdAt {{ $json.post.createdAt }}
score post.score {{ $json.post.score }}
comments post.commentCount {{ $json.post.commentCount }}

Here is that node as n8n JSON, so you can paste it onto a canvas:

{
  "nodes": [
    {
      "parameters": {
        "assignments": {
          "assignments": [
            { "id": "a1", "name": "title", "value": "={{ $json.post.postTitle }}", "type": "string" },
            { "id": "a2", "name": "link", "value": "={{ $json.post.url }}", "type": "string" },
            { "id": "a3", "name": "published", "value": "={{ $json.post.createdAt }}", "type": "string" },
            { "id": "a4", "name": "score", "value": "={{ $json.post.score }}", "type": "number" },
            { "id": "a5", "name": "comments", "value": "={{ $json.post.commentCount }}", "type": "number" }
          ]
        },
        "options": {}
      },
      "name": "Map to RSS-style fields",
      "type": "n8n-nodes-base.set",
      "typeVersion": 3.4,
      "position": [720, 0]
    }
  ],
  "connections": {}
}
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The full four-node workflow, with a setup note on the canvas, is a free download from the lesson page. Its API key is a placeholder (YOUR_PROLEVELMAX_KEY) in an Authorization header. I'd move it into a credential as soon as you paste it.

Optional: let AI read the posts

If your old workflow asked AI to sum up the subreddit, trim the posts first. AI reads a short, tidy list better than a pile of fields, and you pay for fewer tokens. A Code node in Run Once for All Items mode does it:

// Keep only what the AI needs from each post
return $input.all().map(item => {
  const p = item.json.post || {};
  return {
    json: {
      title: p.postTitle,
      score: p.score,
      comments: p.commentCount,
      link: p.url,
      published: p.createdAt,
    },
  };
});
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

If you also want the post body for the AI, open the HTTP Request node's output panel, find the field that holds it in your response and add it to the object above. I've only listed the field names ProLevelMax documents for the RSS mapping.

Then an AI Agent with an OpenAI Chat Model (gpt-4o-mini is enough) gets a system message along these lines: answer using only the Reddit posts provided, group what people are saying into 3 to 5 themes, quote short bits, include the post links, and say so if the posts don't cover the question.

Mistakes I'd avoid

  • Putting the key in the URL or the JSON body. Keep it in the Bearer Auth credential.
  • Waiting until November 13. Build it now and run both versions side by side for a few days.
  • Sending the AI every field. Trim first.
  • Trusting the summary blindly. Open a couple of the linked posts before you act on a theme.

What it costs

From prolevelmax.com and the console on October 19, 2026: Subreddit feed, Post search and Post comments are $0.003 per call each. You pay as you go from a prepaid balance, with no subscription. ProLevelMax says a failed run is usually free and a run never takes the balance below zero. Results are kept for 30 days under Runs. Check prolevelmax.com/pricing for current prices before you plan around them.

If you sign up through my referral link (affiliate link: I may earn a commission, at no cost to you), you get 20% extra on your first top-up.
